Leah battled hard over 2 seriously long tough days of Mountain Bike racing to finish in a very impressive 2nd place in the U21 Women’s Category in the last round of the   in Finale Ligure, Italy on 28th Sept to 1st October.
There were 7 Rounds in the Series in total held throughout 2017 in New Zealand, Australia, Portugal, Ireland, France, USA, Canada and Italy.  Leah competed in the Irish and French Rounds earlier this year and has taken an excellent 2nd place in both of those events also.

Back to the Italian Round – the format was 2 days practice where you can ride all 7 stages once and then followed by 2 days racing.

Unfortunately on Thursday – Day 1 of practice – Leah had a nasty crash on Stage 1 that caused her to miss out on practice for Stage 2 while her injuries were assessed and tended to. This this meant she had to race it blind on Saturday!

Although she was in a lot of pain, she resumed practice on the day just in time to get a run on Stage 3 and then onto Friday’s practice of Stages 4,5,6 and 7 which all went well.

Leah was a bit stiff and sore going into Day 1 of the Race on Saturday morning with a 07:30 start time. She had a brilliant 2 days of tight racing, winning three stages, 2nd on three stages and 3rd on one stage, finishing up in 2nd place and only 12 seconds off 1st place!!

Well done Leah from all of us here in St. Mary’s.
